Seattle

We had a wonderful trip to Seattle and I will add more information and pictures when my other computer cooperates, but in the meantime here is a picture of on "International District Day".

Amanda planned a great day for us. We started at the Panama Hotel Tea House. This was a boarding house at the turn of the century. A woman opened a business in the building, the Tea House, and has hung pictures from the area in the early 1900's. My grandfather, Tadashi Kinoshita, immigrated there. Amanda lived in the International District a few years ago and was looking at the pictures in the tea house to discover a picture of Tadashi. He used to work at the Japanese daily newspaper and there was a picture of the staff hanging in on the wall. I am so impressed that she would recognized a picture of her great grandfather but she did. We have known about the picture since then so one of the highlights of this trip was to go and take a look.

The picture is all of us around the picture: Gwyne, Amanda, Grandma Kay (my mom, Tadashi's daughter), Mariko, me, and Gregory.

We went to a wall that honors those how were interned from the area and those Japanese Americans who served in the military. We went to the Wing Asian Museum, and ate dinner at the Maneki Restaurant, a Japanese restaurant established in 1910.

It was a great day!
