So now that Barrett is home and we aren't getting the emails back and forth recapping the week, I thought I would approach the blog the way I approached his weekly email, recapping the week in the life of the Hamps.
Monday was significant because Gregory and Seth returned from their Utah adventure via Amtrak. They got off the train and then met me at the bus stop and we all took the commuter bus home to Pville together. They told me of all their adventures but mostly their lessons learned...there were a ton. A very positive experience.
Tuesday, Barrett and Seth took Owen back to work and had a nice, leisurely drive from French Camp to Yuba City (distracted driving) before picking me up in Sacramento. Owen was headed to Dallas Texas.
On Wednesday I came home from work to Greg and Seth mohawked. They are funny! Greg is particularly happy with how surprisingly intimidating he can look with the new do.
Thursday I went to a Relief Society Garden Party at Patsy's. It was well attended and always a good time. Happy to become reacquainted with some people I have not seen for a while. While there Kimberly called and asked if I could help her out on Saturday (Greg) too as they were booked at three locations and needed some help with Chillits. We made arrangements for me to learn what to do Friday night.
On Friday, I felt like I finally have a handle on what is happening at work, gratefully. Ever since our Moscow trip I have really struggled trying to get my head back in the game. While there Barrett called to tell me that he had developed a rash that was progressing quite rapidly. Gave him the info to call Kaiser. After work I met Tiffany for a bit to eat and to catch up. Barrett called to update me that the doctor would be calling him back at 5:30. After the call Barrett was Emergency Room bound. Spencer was willing to take him to Roseville and Debby and I both thought that after a few hours in the ER he would be home, so I agreed so I could make my commitment to Kim.

Turns out the rash was treated and the routine blood and urine tests yielded another, more dangerous find. He was suffering from Rhabdomyolysis. An acute condition caused from muscle damage releasing an enzyme into the blood that can damage the kidneys. He had been working out with Seth over Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday and had damaged the muscle tissue releasing this enzyme. The rash, still with an unknown cause, was the only reason it was caught in time. Gratefully, no kidney damage. Also he was dehydrated to the point that his blood was thick which could have caused a stroke. The remedy is IV fluids to hydrate and then to flush out the enzyme.
Saturday I went to the hospital and was there when the doctor arrived so was able to hear what he had to say. Then I went to Wagon Days to do Chillits with B; while Greg was at a concert with Jeff and Terry; and Kim was at a Sacramento event. Meanwhile, Owen made it to Dallas.

Sunday Greg and I went to the hospital and was there when the doctor arrived. Barrett will be in the hospital until the CK levels come down to an acceptable level. They can't say how high the levels were. The test only measures to 35,000 and he is still there. Normal is 220. The doctor says at least two more days. Good news: he doesn't feel bad and he and his little IV cart have bonded. Owen spent the day with Mike P and went to church with them. Now he is sleeping and will move onto Houston tonight.
